Temperature-controlled Chuck for Automated Sensor Production

Country:
Austria

Client:
E+E Elektronik

Background:
E+E Elektronik is a developer and producer of high-quality sensors, measuring transducers, data loggers, hand-held devices and calibration systems for measuring humidity, air velocity and air temperature, based on thin-layer technique sensors. During production processing of these sensors, which are supported by thin glass slides, precise temperature controlling, involving a highly homogeneous temperature distribution over the planar substrates, is of vital importance for product quality and production yield. CTR was assigned the development of a customised system solution for precise and homogenous temperature control.

CTR services:
It was task of the project to develop, build and implement a unit capable of highly precise temperature control over a planar area with additional vacuum gripper capabilities to hold the products in process for an automated sensor production line. The developed system is capable of controlling the temperature in the range 10 °C – 120 °C with a precision and homogeneity of ± 0,1°C over the whole element surface. During the tempering, the product in process is held by vacuum to facilitate optimal thermal contact. The temperature controlled chuck was implemented into the production line of the partner company.
The activities by CTR involved the development of the mechanical and electrical sub-systems required, modelling and simulation using appropriate computer-based tools, adaptation and optimisation of the electronic controls, the setting-up of the unit and the final verification using a thermal camera.

Project duration:
4 Months

Project scope:
Integrated system solution fulfilling customer-specific requirements
