FT-IR Spectrometer

Ultra Rapid Scan FT-Spectrometer

Presently, spectrometric production process control requires sampling, followed by spectroscopic laboratory analysis. This is not only laborious and expensive, but also effects a significant time-lag until the results become available.

An innovative microsystem component has enabled us to show a miniaturised FT
spectrometer in operation online for the first time. This demonstration not only proves its basic functionality but also paves the way for FTIR process spectrometers. Its possible applications range from the identification of certain gases and liquids to industrial process control. At the same time as developing the system, we are also optimising the microsystem technology component. This will help us to meet the specifications demanded by industry (resolution, SNR, etc.). The project results obtained to date have formed the basis for several scientific publications.

This measuring system is unique worldwide and capable of opening up a wide range of new applications in process control for chemical engineering, biotechnology, environmental analysis and the pharmaceutical industry. The market potential of such systems is reckoned to be very high, as they enable production support and continuous process control. Potential end users and renowned spectrometer manufacturers have already shown an interest in the results available to date.
This measuring system is unique and already worldwide patented.

“With the opportunities of micro-system, spectrometers can become considerably smaller, faster, more reliable and, perhaps most importantly, more cost-effective.” Andreas Kenda, CTR project leader
